Coming on September 1st, the second Gulliver Dowd book...

"A little man with a huge heart and a huge chip on his shoulder, Gulliver Dowd swaggers into the crime fiction world and takes his place with the great investigators. Smart, vulnerable, wounded, heartbreakingly hopeful, I just adore his company." -- Louise Penny, New York Times bestselling author

When PI Gulliver Dowd locates a street kid’s missing dog, he thinks he’s simply done his good deed for the day. But when the boy is discovered unconscious and left for dead not far from Valentino Pier, Dowd sets out to find the attacker and why the boy was targeted. What Gulliver uncovers by way of bizarre clues—amidst threats of danger to himself and loved ones—leads him on his most curious case yet.

VALENTINO PIER is Reed's second Rapid Reads book featuring Gulliver Dowd, following DIRTY WORK which was released on March 1, 2013. Rapid Reads are short novels and non-fiction books for adult readers. In our increasingly fast-paced world we believe there is a need for well-written, well-told books that can be read in one sitting. Rapid Reads are intended for a diverse audience, including ESL students, reluctant readers, adults who struggle with literacy and anyone who wants an high-interest quick read. For more information on Rapid Reads click here

Reed Farrel Coleman: A Thank You

The other night at the Edgar banquet, I sat and listened to Dennis Lehane’s acceptance speech when he won the Edgar® Award for Best Novel. The unscripted speech was very moving in an unexpected way. There was Dennis, standing at the podium, dumbfounded, gathering himself, turning the statuette to face him, and introducing himself to Poe. Great moment...

It's Publication Day for ONION STREET...

Today's image: The cover of ONION STREET by Reed Farrel Coleman

“No, this was Brooklyn. We liked our scars. We wore our failures with pride. We lived in a world of what used to be and what would be no more.” –from Onion Street

It's 1967 and Moe Prager is wandering aimlessly through his college career and his life. All that changes when his girlfriend Mindy is viciously beaten into a coma and left to die on the snow-covered streets of Brooklyn. Suddenly, Moe has purpose. He is determined to find out who's done this to Mindy and why. But Mindy is not the only person in Moe's life who's in danger. Someone is also trying to kill his best and oldest friend, Bobby Friedman. Moe will risk everything to find the answers. He will travel from the pot-holed pavement of Brighton Beach to the Pocono Mountains to the runways at Kennedy Airport. But no matter how far he goes or how fast he gets there, all roads lead to Onion Street.

Advance praise for Onion Street:

“…Few writers working in any genre offer tales with such moral complexity, dark humor, and, most of all, heart.”--Megan Abbott, Edgar® Award-winning author of DARE ME

“Edgar-finalist Coleman’s outstanding eighth Moe Prager mystery (after 2011’s Hurt Machine) explains how the NYPD detective turned PI became a cop...The twists and turns are unpredictable, but Coleman pulls everything together by the end.”  – from Publisher’s Weekly, starred review

“Coleman’s latest—a prequel to the award-winning Moe Prager series—is a slam-dunk recommendation for readers drawn to smart, gritty, crime fiction with label-defying characters…Exposing a well-loved character’s backstory can be risky, but Coleman manages the trick just fine, with setting and character nicely balancing plot and action.”— from Booklist, starred review

“VERDICT - The eighth outing (after Hurt Machine) for PI (and former NYPD cop) Moe Prager makes an effective coming-of-age prequel, explaining how he got into police work in the first place. Coleman has won multiple awards for his gritty but soulful series, and this entry is of that same high caliber. Don’t miss it." — from Library Journal
